Welcome to the Saskatchewan Sailing Clubs Association Mobile Sailing School!
Our Mobile Sailing School has been successfully running in Saskatchewan for over 20 years, fostering confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong love for sailing. The Mobile Sailing School is officially approved by Sail Canada, ensuring top-tier instruction that meets national standards. Our program is also proudly funded by Sask Lotteries, allowing us to provide high-quality sailing experiences at an affordable cost to clubs, communities, and parks across Saskatchewan.
Our Boats
C420s -> A very popular boat throughout the world. The general boat design and shape of its rounded hull makes it a great learning boat for youth and adults.
Optimists -> This is the most common dinghy sailboat in the world. Children as young as 8 can start to learn to sail this boat. Its basic design makes it ideal for beginners and racers alike.
What to Bring
- Participants must wear a Personal Flotation Device at all times on the water.
- Sunscreen, hat, rash guard with UV protection
- Depending on the weather; a shorty wetsuit is encouraged.
- Closed toe footwear is essential. Water shoes or running shoes are good footwear to protect your feet.
- A properly fitted helmet (A bicycle helmet works well).
- Whistle (one per person)
- Water bottle, snacks, and lunch
- Also, it may be cooler on the water. Bring extra clothing and shoes to get dry after sailing. A nylon shell jacket is a good idea.
- Willingness to try something new and a positive attitude!
What to Expect on your Sailing course
Time on the water in Saskatchewan always feels too short. As such, we want to spend as little time in the classroom as possible to maximize time on the water. We operate in small ratios (Max 10 trainees per course) to ensure you get the assistance you need. All skills will be explained and demonstrated before going on the water. That includes capsizing! With the beautiful Saskatchewan summers and fun experience of Sailing, you can expect to be in the water everyday.
On a typical 3-hour lesson, (Either one or two of these a day);
- Assist with rigging your own boat and prepare for the water session ahead.
- Join in a briefing with a plan for the day with local factors and weather taken in to consideration
- Launch boats into the water
- Learn a new water skill for 25 – 35 minutes.
- Return to shore, evaluate skill, prepare for another.
- Learn a new water skill for 25 – 35 minutes.
- Return to shore, evaluate skill, prepare for another.
- Learn a new water skill for 25 – 35 minutes.
- Return to shore, evaluate skill.
- Recover your boat back to dinghy area.
- De-rig your boat.
- Join in a de-briefing of the days activities. Ask questions.
Assisting with Mobile Sailing School Preparation
As the Mobile Sailing School is mobile; participants are required to assist with loading and unloading the boats from the trailers. This is also an essential set of skills for future boat owners.
Checklick
Checklick is the Sail Canada approved for tracking the skills and accomplishments for all sailors of Canada. Saskatchewan Sailing also use this platform for course bookings, descriptions, and to accredit sailors after successful completion of their course.
Cancellation Policy
All refunds are subject to a cancellation fee of 10% of the registration amount. There will be no refunds for cancellations made by the participant 28 days prior to the scheduled course start date. If a registration is waitlisted, enrollment is assumed unless the club or sailing school coordinator is notified otherwise. If a vacancy arises, waitlisted participants will be enrolled in the course (with confirmation) on a first-come, first-served basis. While a participant is on the waitlist, their payment method will not be charged, therefore removal requests are free.
Sask Sailing is committed to keeping sailors on the water and in the race. For decades, we've supported our members by making boats available for club racing, weekend events, and longer regattas. Whether you're competing at your home club, heading to a weekend regatta, or representing Saskatchewan out of province, our formalised boat rental program helps remove barriers and keep you sailing.

What You Need to Know
- Covers one day use.
- If needing a boat for 2 days; buy two rentals.
- If needing a boat for 3 days; buy three rentals.
- And so on...
- Boats are transported by Sask Sailing.
- Sailors must assist with loading and unloading the trailer.
- Rentals are first-come, first-served.
- Sailors must be a member of an SSCA sailing club or the Sask Sailing Virtual Club.
- Sailors assume full responsibilty for the welfare of themselves and the boat. If damage to the boat occurs; the sailor may be responsible for damages.
Boats are intended for active participation in racing (not casual use).
SEASONAL USE
Available for the entire season from June 1st - August 30th.

The Sask Sailing Virtual Club (SSVC) provides an accessible membership option to all individuals seeking access to Sailing in Saskatchewan at sanctioned events without club affiliation. Virtual Club membership ensures individuals can participate in sailing opportunities delivered or sanctioned by the SSCA, including Mobile Sailing School programs, regattas, training events, and other sanctioned activities.
Virtual Club membership establishes the individual as a recognized member of Sask Sailing and Sail Canada. This membership includes Sask Sailing insurance coverage for sanctioned events. In addition, membership to the SSVC helps grow and develop sailing opportunities for all in Saskatchewan and beyond.
Annual Membership Fee: $40 per person
Membership Term: January 1 – December 31
The fee includes:

• Sail Canada Membership
• Sask Sailing insurance coverage for sanctioned events
• Access to online education, webinars, and resources
• Eligibility for SSCA program opportunities (e.g., boat rentals and training programs)
• Inclusion in Sask Sailing communications and newsletters
Additional Benefit:
The SSVC membership fee may be applied toward a Category A Saskatchewan Sailing Club
membership if the member joins a club later in the same membership year.
